Indoors sow February to May, thinly in pots or trays of seed compost. Cover lightly with fine compost. Keep moist and warm, approx. 20-25oC (68-75oF). Germination may be erratic so as seedlings appear and are large enough transplant to individual 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually harden off before planting out in large pots in the greenhouse or conservatory or in a sunny, sheltered position in the garden which has good drainage. Mature plants handle winter better, so can be kept in a frost free greenhouse or conservatory and planted out in year two.
Flowers: June to September, the following year. If planted outdoors, cover roots with mulch in winter.
